The Brighton Collectibles retail store at Simi Valley Town Center announces a free "mall picnic" fund-raiser Aug. 9 to help feed individuals and families hurt by the economy. The event will:
- provide free meals thanks to generous local businesses;
- raise funds for a local nonprofit organization;
- generate assistance for local individuals; and
- and attract contributions toward a national campaign to confront troubling economic times.
Specifically, the event will assist the Samaritan Center of Simi Valley, and is part of the Brighton Collectibles company's "American Heroes" promotion to help feed struggling Americans. Through the "American Heroes" campaign, Brighton Collectibles plans to raise $300,000 to feed individuals and families nationwide.
For the Aug. 9 event, funds will be raised through donations, sales of raffle tickets, and a percentage of sales of a special line of American Heroes jewelry designed just for the promotion. The mall picnic is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 at Brighton Collectibles, located at Simi Valley Town Center, 1555 Simi Town Center Way, Location 500.
Providing food and donations for the event will be Red Robin, Famous Dave's, Corner Bakery, California Pizza Kitchen, Aveda Centra Salon, Brookstone, Beachcomber, Peachy Keen, Results Fitness, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Designer's Market and Tina Kyes. The Simi Valley Corvette Club will present a booth.
"We are trying to raise money for local families, and also local charities, to help people who have really fallen into difficult circumstances," said store manager Tracy Storbeck.
Local donations will go to the Samaritan Center, which provides basic supportive services and resources to homeless and near-homeless persons. Additionally, visitors Aug. 9 can nominate individuals or families to receive grants from the "American Heroes" effort.
