What's going on?!?

SO... I try driving to my work today (5/8/04) located at the corner of Cochran and Sequoia and find that Cochran St. is blocked off in it's entirity due to some event. I find that I can drive down Galena to Alamo and up Sequoia to get to the back entrance of my parking lot, but now it's jam packed full of cars from people who DO NOT work in these buildings and I have to butt myself up against a brick wall where I can barely squeeze out of my drivers side door. No way I'm gonna pay a parking ticket if I happen to get one! Anyway here's my beef:

1) Why do events such as whatever this one is have to completely close down major city streets (I've seen others that closed down L.A. Ave before)? They should be required to either leave at least two lanes open for traffic to pass through and/or relocate it to areas of town such that it won't interfere with people who don't give a shit about the event.

2) Why do these things just pop up out of nowhere? At the very least if access to buildings are going to be blocked off like this the organizers of these events should post signs on or near the buildings that will be effected. There have been no signs about whatever this thing is, and even searching through the community websites reveals nothing, I can't find mention of it anywhere!

This is just plain rude, if I wanted to throw a huge block party I'd inform the neighbors about it, I would expect the same amount of respect to be given to the people who work and/or live in the areas in which these events take place.

If you got this far thanks for reading my rantings, and I'd be interested in hearing if you agree or disagree with my point of view regarding these events.

Thanks.
